In Response to Andrew Coyne on Stephen Harper
January 16, 2006
Andrew Coyne wrote an article in the National Post stating that Stephen Harper has no experience and that he brings nothing to the table. Obviously, either Andrew knows little of Stephen Harper's history or he is intentionally distorting the facts.

Stephen Harper was the original writer of the Reform Party's founding party platform, which changed the landscape of Canada for the better. Until the Reform Party brought forward the blue book the Liberals were not even discussing the elimination of the national deficit. Now, although with "borrowed funds" from the E.I. program, we have a balanced budget. We have the Reform Party and the work that Stephen Harper did on the blue book to thank for this.
Stephen Harper also led the 67,000 member strong National Citizen's Coalition, a very effective lobby group in Canada. He was a Member of Parliament, a lecturer at the University on economics, and a parliamentary assistant to Deborah Grey before he, himself, was elected as a Member of Parliament. He then went on to win the leadership of the Canadian Alliance party and then subsequent to that forged an agreement with Peter McKay to unite the Alliance Party and the PC Party to form the new Conservative Party of Canada.
Stephen Harper, has proven himself a statesman in the midst of Liberal scare tactics and slander campaigns, he has brought new credibility to the new Conservative Party in areas where the pundits stated the Conservatives would never make in roads. Stephen Harper is a prime example of what a modern day politician should look like, rational, level headed and measured in his approach to issues. This is a start contrast to the irrational, over emotional, reactionary tactics displayed by Paul Martin.
Anyone who truly knows Stephen Harper's history would not state that he has no experience nor brings nothing to the table. Canada needs a new brand of politics, one of Integrity, honesty and perseverance, an approach that will restore Canadian citizens' confidence in politicians and in the Canadian political process. It would seem that Andrew Coyne himself is misinformed or that he is intentionally undermining Stephen Harper in hopes that he can slow the Canadian public's acceptance of the Conservative Party as the new majority government of Canada.
To you Mr. Coyne, we say, "shame on you". The Conservative slogan is true. It's time Canadians "Stand up for Canada", and vote the corrupt and arrogant Liberals out to show them that Canadians want accountability in government not false promises, smear campaigns, scandal and bloated government.
